SloMo Accessibility Statement

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

King’s College London is committed to making the SloMo therapy platform and mobile application accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This accessibility statement applies to the SloMo (R2) therapy platform, and SloMo (R2) mobile application.

For advice on making your device easier to use according to your needs, please visit https://mcmw.abilitynet.org.uk/.

Compliance status

The SloMo therapy platform (web application) and mobile application are partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard. Further details of areas of non-compliance and exemptions are listed below.

Accessibility features

  • High contrast design: We have designed the SloMo Therapy Platform and Mobile App to have a high contrast colour scheme of simple colours, which can be helpful for users with low vision or sensitivity.

  • Alternative formats: Where possible we have provided format options for how content can be accessed (e.g., written, audio, visual). Where possible ALT tags have been correctly used on elements to improve compatibility with screen readers.

  • Adjustable text size: The therapy platform enables you change font size to your preference by using the Zoom In / Out function (for keyboard controls: Ctrl/Cmd + Plus or Minus), and will adapt the layout accordingly to your screen size.

  • Subtitles: All videos have been developed with closed captions to enable people with hearing impairments to understand the content.

  • Plain language: Language and terminology used throughout the SloMo therapy platform and mobile app has been co-produced with experts by experience, and is intended to be simple, easily understood and accessible to a wide range of people.

  • Mobile app gestures: In line with user consultation and accessibility regulations, all mobile app interactions can be completed using one finger and simple gestures (e.g., tap or swipe) only.

  • Simple & consistent navigation: A burger menu has been included in the design of both mobile app and therapy platform, to provide a consistent method of navigation to key content. Navigation buttons are descriptively labelled according to their function.

  • Alternative access: Where preferred, non-digital, physical resources are available and can be used in place of the therapy platform and mobile app for key therapy content.

Areas for improvement

We are working towards addressing other accessibility issues. The following areas have been identified for future improvements, and are not currently compliant with accessibility regulations.

  • Although we have ensured all video content includes closed captions, we are working on providing this information as separate transcript in the therapy platform and mobile app.

  • The mobile app is not currently compatible with built-in screen readers, dark mode, or flipping to horizontal viewing.

  • The SloMo therapy platform has been created with Adaptive Web Design to enable use across different devices and screen sizes. However, when text is enlarged to 200%, some design elements become distorted and have limitations to functionality.

Due to the intended use of SloMo, the following areas are currently out of scope of accessibility regulations:

  • The SloMo therapy platform is intended to be used collaboratively between a therapist and user, accessed via a computer, laptop, mobile phone or tablet. Due to this design, it is not possible to navigate the therapy platform with keyboard only access.

  • As SloMo is intended to be used in a structured, sessional format, alternative navigation options, such as a search feature, have not been included in the therapy platform design.
